On 17 November 2005 the Central Bank of Hungary issued a silver coin commemorating the “400th anniversary of István Bocskai’s election as prince of Transylvania” with a face value of HUF 5,000.

On the obverse there is the reverse of István Bocskai’s thaler minted in 1605 and on the reverse there is a half-length portrait of the prince.

The coin was designed by Gábor Gáti.

The coin was made of .925 fine silver, weighs 31.46 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a reeded edge.

6,000 coins may be struck, of which 3,000 are produced by the special “proof” technology.

The coin may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38) or from the shop in the National Bank of Hungary’s Visitor Centre (Budapest, Szabadság tér 8/9). The coin is available at face value for three months from its date of issue.
