On 15 September 2006 Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued 2 million HUF 50 coins to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian Red Cross.

The side of the coin showing its face value is the same as the HUF 50 coin currently in circulation, while the other side shows the logo of the Hungarian Red Cross instead of the picture of the saker falcon. Beneath the logo there is the legend “125 years”.

The new side of the coin was designed by István Kósa.

The coin is made of an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighs 7.7 grams, and has a diameter of 27.4 mm and a smooth edge.

12,000 coins from the first day minting are for sale in numbered special packaging.

The coins from the first day minting with special packaging may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38) or from the shop in Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Visitor Centre.
