On  9 December, 2004 the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a collector coin made of silver of a face value of HUF 5,000 called „Ancient Christian Catacombs of Pécs”. This is a continuation of the series „World Heritage in Hungary”.

On the front side the picture of a bronze ornament depicting  the Christ monogram can be seen. The reverse side depicts the so-called burial vault with jugs.

The coin was designed by László Szlávics Jr., sculptor.

The coin was made of silver with a fineness of 925 ‰, weighing 31.46 grams, with a diameter of 38.61 mm, with milled edge.

10,000 can be minted of this collector coin, out of which 5,000 will be minted with a special - so called „proof” - technology.

The public can purchase these coins at Hungarian Mint Ltd (Könyves Kálmán körút 38.) as well as in the shop of the Visitors’ Center of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Budapest, Szabadság tér 8/9). The coins can be purchased at face value for three month after the issuance.
