Function

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (www.mnb.hu), which is the member of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), is seeking to fill the position of the Head of Research. The responsibilities of the research function in the MNB are:

 

  • To engage in academic research and publish high quality papers in international professional journals;
  • To provide policy analysis on issues of relevance to the Bank and to support economic and policy making decisions in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank;
  • To support research activities carried out in other divisions of MNB;
  • To participate in research projects at the ESCB level.

 

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank is intending to expand its research activity. The new Head will build and lead a team with outstanding intellectual and professional capacity. The new Head of Research is expected:

 

  • To organize research activities, to create a team of highly skilled economists and to manage them. They should be able to engage in high quality academic research and publish outstanding papers in international professional journals on topics relevant for central banking;
  • To undertake successfully the duties of professional leadership, management of human resources and staff recruitment/development;
  • To organize and provide leadership in common research projects between the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the ESCB and other international institutions;
  • To lead and give support to the research work carried out in other divisions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in economics, several years of distinguished research experience, and an established research agenda in fields relevant for central banking, as demonstrated by several publications in top-tier professional journals;
  • At least 3 years experience in leading research teams;
  • Proven organizational skills and initiative;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to motivate and manage the work of highly skilled researchers;
  • An excellent command of English;
  • Knowledge of Hungarian is not required.

Starting date

The appointment will start at a mutually agreed date in 2005.
