Summer Visiting Researcher Program 2012

Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB, the central bank of Hungary) is looking for candidates for its 2012 Summer Visiting Researcher Program for researchers with PhD-degree, advanced PhD-students, and ESCB researchers in the following departments:
- Research,
- Monetary Strategy and Economic Analysis,
- Payments and Securities Settlements,
- Financial Analysis,
- Financial Stability,
- Statistics.
During their stay at the Bank, visiting researchers pursue a well-defined topic of their choice, preferably in collaboration with researchers or analysts at MNB. Visitors can propose their own topic or choose from the list as follows:
Research topics in 2012
- Exchange rate modeling, including analysis of derivative markets, i.e. FX swaps (Financial analysis department)
- Interest rate and yield curve modeling, analysis of CDS markets (Financial analysis department)
- Modeling of external balance, with emphasis on current account sustainability and the effects of fiscal policy (Financial analysis department)
- Fiscal analysis, forecasting, pension systems (Financial analysis department)
The applicants’ proposed project must be relevant for the general interests of MNB, and it can include both theoretical and empirical work. A preference is given to topics that are more closely related to monetary policy questions or the current activities of the departments listed above.
Results are expected to be published in the MNB Working Paper series. In addition, MNB encourages and supports the submission of results to refereed journals.
Successful academic applicants will receive a compensation package during their time at MNB, while ESCB visitors (under the existing exchange arrangement) are expected to be financed by their home institution.
The preferred starting date of the program is July 2, 2012. The length of stay is flexible, but it must be long enough to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Application:
The application can be submitted either in English or Hungarian and must include the following:
· Curriculum vitae.
· A 1-2 page proposal, which describes the chosen topic, including motivation and previous work in the area.
· 1 recommendation letter (optional).
The deadline for application is April 15, 2012. MNB will notify applicants about its decision by May 4, 2012. We might be able to accommodate applications arriving after the deadline, depending on the availability of remaining budget. Applications from central bank researchers are welcome throughout the year.
